Massachusetts Regiments

Two men with ties to Williamson County served in Massachusetts regiments during the Civil War.  

• William Holmes was born in Virginia and served in the 5th Massachusetts Cavalry during the War. Soon after his service, he moved to Williamson County where he married and raised a family. He lived here until his death in 1902.

• Benjamin Patton may have been a member of a free family of Patton/Redmonds from near Triune and Nolensville.  He was living in Cincinnati when he enlisted in the 54th Massachusetts Infantry.  After the War, he settled in Williamson County where he received a pension.
